Let’s just say I haven’t been to a sub sandwich shop that I have enjoyed in a while and I work at one, but this was a different story.
With no desire to eat a wet turkey slab sandwich from a gas station I asked a Three Rivers native where I should eat and landed at Sierra Subs & Salads.
Sierra Subs and Salads is located at 41717 Sierra Drive in the heart of Three Rivers, CA, next to the Exxon Station, the last gas station for about thirty miles east on highway 198 heading towards the Sequoia National Forest.
As I walked into Sierra Subs and Salads I was taken back not only by how nice the owners were but also by how clean the shop was.
The menu boasts ‘Fine Dining in a Sandwich’ and I can attest to that. After a few suggestions from other customers and after looking over the menu for about five minutes, I ordered the ALTA Peak club sandwich, a mango smoothie, and a large cup of water, all for about $9.00.
The ALTA Peak Club was adorned with a half pound of turkey, ham, and bacon on a double Decker of sourdough bread with mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato. The sandwich was massive and the only thing that I wished it came with was avocado.
I ate outside because there was no indoor seating offered neither was there space and also because it was a nice day. I could only eat half of the sandwich because it was huge so I took it with me, which I ate later at the river.
I recommend Sierra Subs to anyone with a stomach and a knack for hole in the wall eateries.
Located right next to the seating area is an Art Coop where local artists have their work on display and for sale.
The restaurant also serves as a takeaway pizza parlor where a pizza can be designed for your liking or chosen from a list with names such as Eagle View Vegetarian, Sugar Pine (Hawaiian), Kaweah Combo, and Mineral King Meat lovers.
Sierra Subs and Salads does it right. They have a great blend of modern style with a mountainous feel that boasts in cleanliness. This restaurant has definitely been put on my radar and the next time I am in Three Rivers a stop will be due.
