Chris Knox, this year’s new Dean of Counseling, handles half of the Student Services at COS. She works with the staff to make sure everything is running smoothly.

“If you look at it in football terms, the President is the coach, Vice President is the quarterback, and I am one of the halfbacks,” she said.

But this is not Knox’s first year on staff. She has been at COS since 1985 and starred at COS as the Career Center Coordinator. She then moved to being Associate Dean of Matriculation. For three years, Knox was in this position, and then became the Associate Dean of Instructor. In this position Know was able to help open the Hanford Center in downtown Hanford. After two years, Know went back to the main COS campus and helped with evening college, community services, and worked as a contract educator.

Knox’s life took a different path when she got married and had children. Chris asked COS for a position that she would be able to balance her family and work, and she was granted a faculty position as a psychology teacher. Knox taught Psychology for three years until she was offered her current job as the Dean of Counseling.

Knox explains that her job as the Dean of Counseling is a college posted one-year interim position, and she loves it. Knox explains in football terms, describing the staff as an NFL football team. Everyone must know their position, and if they do then the team works together to win the game. Knox speaks very highly of the staff she gets to work with, whom she used to work with.

Pamela Flores and Mona Freemen both work for Knox.

“Chris is a great problem solver, and student devoted.  She has been working very hard these past few weeks, and we greatly appreciate her.”
