The Campus is the First Amendment student newspaper at the College of the Sequoias. The first issue was published in 1935 when the college was known as Visalia Junior College and the paper was called The V.J.C. Campus. Produced by students enrolled in journalism classes, the paper is available in print, and online here at www.coscampusonline.com.
The Campus is a broadsheet newspaper, published on a weekly basis during the fall and spring semesters, and circulates 5,000 copies through a population of over 10,000 students, plus instructors and administrators on the three valley campuses; as well as having an online edition. Student produced from the reporting, editorial and photography staffs; to graphics, layout and advertising; as well as local area distribution. Our newspaper is run entirely by students.
The Campus is distributed to faculty and staff mailboxes, multiple sites on campus, the COS Farm and Hanford Campuses, as well as local high schools and libraries. Our students also deliver copies to several area hotspots such as restaurants, bookstores and coffee shops. Distribution is done the day of publication.
Advertising dollars are used to publish the newspaper throughout the semester. In addition to publication, the funds help sponsor students to conferences and workshops that contribute to the students' education in the different areas of the mass media.
