Who would have thought that someone could get their DJ name from their little brother who just could not say their real name the correct way. That is exactly the case for DJ Beto Ceba, 22, also known as Benito Ceballos III. His little brother could not pronounce Benito; therefore Beto became his name known by everyone including his family and friends.
Currently Beto is in his second semester at COS.
"So far I'm diggin' it."
He plans on getting his degree in music theory/composition and he is also thinking about transferring but is currently not sure where he wants to go.
Beto starting listening to electronic music a back in 1999 and 2000. He would listen to different mixes from djs he had never heard of, and out of the songs that he liked the most he would make one continuous mix.
"I had no idea that this was the basics of a dj," said Beto.
He made these mixes because he wanted something to listen to and eventually he began making his own music and mixing in his own tracks. At first he said that his music did not sound too great.
Then, for the first time around 2003 and 2004 he had a chance to dj with someone else's vinyl's at a house party and he says that he had a lot of fun.
"I sounded good but I felt great. It was then that I found my love for being a dj," said Beto.
Beto is now a part of a dj crew called Nomadic Beat Syndrome. Beto said there are many reasons why he dj's.
"One reason for sure is that it's a great feeling when you're up there spinning the tracks you love and having the dance floor packed. Even more so when it's your own tracks and remixes."
He likes to mix different genres of music, mostly house music and hip hop.
"Beto has a dynamic, positive energy that allows any style of person to feel like they totally relate to him as well as are welcomed by him," said his group communications teacher at COS, Robin McGehee.
Horror movies but not the serial killer genres are another one of Beto's hobbies. He also said, "Possessed dolls, zombies and killer klowns from outer space are more of my thing. Yes that's klowns with a K. Google it."
A friend, co-worker, and classmate of Beto, Jessica Mendonca, 19, said, "Beto is a very funny guy, and when he dj's. He does such a variety and it makes him very entertaining and energetic."
Things Beto is proud of include the fact that he is going back to school.
"It was something that I have wanted to do for the longest time and now that I am finally doing it, I'm happy," said Beto.
He is also proud of all the friends he has made, through school, his dj crew, and work. He said that they have made his life much better and he could never ask them to change.
Beto encourages people to listen to some of his tracks and watch some of his videos on his MySpace at www.myspace.com/djbetoc. Furthermore he wants everyone to, "look out for Beto Ceba on a flyer or even a Nomadic Beat Syndrome party."
