Carter Lovelady, freshman at COS and member of Troop 310 of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) was recognized for outstanding achievement Tuesday, January 20th with a Court of Honor (awards ceremony) where he received the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank with the BSA.

"Carter Lovelady has gone above and beyond the duties and service asked of him." said Greg Fowler, Advancement Chairman of Troop 310 and Master of Ceremonies on Tuesday.

Among the requirements for the Eagle Scout rank are: Completing 21 merit badges, at least one and half of those years in a position of leadership within their troop, 10 or more hours of community service, as well as a community service project which, when approved, will benefit, repair or otherwise improve the scout's local community.

For his project, Carter Lovelady installed a brand new sprinkler system for Neighborhood Church, located on the corner of Riggin and Akers. The project involved removing all previous pipes, purchasing and installing new ones and planting vegetation afterwards to keep the aesthetic look for the church. As most of the Eagle Scout requirements involve time during the high school years, scouts face numerous other challenges and distractions and as a result only 3% of all boy scouts will attain the rank of Eagle Scout.
