The Lady Giants softball team advanced to Super Regionals on Sunday by coming back to take two out of three games from Monterey Peninsula College. The Lady Giants won both games 6-0 after losing 5-2 on Sunday.
In the first game of the Sunday Playoff Doubleheader, with COS facing elimination, Freshman Pitcher Alexis Cervantes pitched a gem, by throwing 6 2/3 of shutout baseball. Lauren Crow came in to record the final out of Game 2.
With the bat, Sophomore’s Kayla Barber and Jennifer Pacada were the standouts. Barber had two hits and drove in a run. Pacada had a two-run double that broke the game open in the 5th inning. Tila Hagen also stood out with two hits, a run batted in, and a stolen base.
In the third and final game of the series, with the Lady Giants also winning 6-0, Lauren Crow was nearly unhitable, as she pitched all seven innings while giving up no runs. Crow gave up only three hits on the game and struck out four Monterey batters.
Taylor Wright and Jennifer Pacada continued their outstanding seasons. Pacada had two hits in two official at-bats with a walk and a run batted in. Wright hit two doubles and drove in a run. To add to their exploits, shortstop Crystal Miller had two hits, getting one after being shaken up from crashing with left fielder Millie Martin, chasing after a fly ball.
The Lady Giants now advance to Super Regional Playoffs. Opponent and date are still to be decided.
