The COS Lady Giants softball team continued their perfect 4-0 record in the Central Valley Conference with a 9-5 win over the Taft Lady Cougars on Thursday. Lauren Crow and Alexis Cervantes helped combine for good outings in the win.
The Lady Giants did have to sweat this win out a little more than they thought, originally holding a 9-0 lead in the fifth inning, but the Lady Cougars kept it up with good at-bats and put a lot of pressure on the Giant defense, getting back into the game. The Cougars even had a chance to make the game even more interesting, since they had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh with two outs, but pitcher Lauren Crow was able to strike that batter out to end the game.
There were a few standouts with the bat for the lady giants, as they usually do with having the highest team batting average in the Conference. Pitcher Lauren Crow was able to drive in two runs, to go along with her stellar pitching performance. Kayla Barber and Taylor Wright each had two hits and a run batted in as the number two and three batters in the lineup.
With the win, the Lady Giants of COS improve to a 4-0 record in the CVC and 17-5 record overall. The Giants will play their next game Thursday, March 15 at Reedley College and won’t play their next home game until Tuesday, March 20 when they have a doubleheader with Merced College at 2 and 4 p.m.
