New class for spring

Spring 2012, a new course will be offered for students who need to complete a statistics class to transfer.

SSCI 25 will follow similar content as Math 21 with a social science foundation. Economics instructor Christian Anderson will teach the course.

“Considering the large number of students who were wait-listed last semester we needed to implement more opportunities for students,” said Anderson.

Since Fall 2010 every statistics class was wait-listed, potentially turning away an entire class full of students, plus students who could not get onto the wait list.

SSCI 25 is a great opportunity for those interested in a social science degree to get mathematical applications that will apply to their field.

Psychology being one of the more dominant choices of major, this statistics class will directly improve their knowledge in the psychology field.

“This statistics course is equivalent to Math 21 with respect to the- IGETC requirements, but students should take care to determine if the course is appropriate for their major,” said Anderson.

Students can acquire the IGETC transfer requirement through the counseling office located in the Sequoia building.

Students can also take a look at their major and requirements at the assist website. Students who are not sure what is required for their mathematics transfer are encouraged to visit the counseling office.

“It is important for students to understand this course will cover the requirements for statistics to transfer and it is a plus for students with a social science major,” said Anderson.

Other new courses offered this spring are for the honors program.
