The Elite Eight awaits the COS men's basketball team as a 68-65 win sends the Giants to Stockton to face #1-seeded Citrus from the South in hopes to take home a trophy for our Visalia team. One win was all it would take to make COS basketball elite again. One victory is all that stood in the way of Coach Rusty Smith's team getting back to the state; that and a pesky Foothill College team that knocked off a #4-seeded Diablo Valley team. In the end, the Giants overcame a ball-control Owl offense by making timely baskets and getting free throws when they needed them. Showron Glover took over in the closing minutes as he made the most important of his 7 for 10 shooting from the line. He also managed to hall in a rebound after a costly miss when the Giants desperately needed a score. He immediately turned the rebound into a lay-up and the Giants held the lead. Anthony Jones led Giant scorers with 17 points. He was 7 for 9 from the field. DeAnthony Holmes chipped in 14. The road to a state championship won't be an easy one. They will definitely need to come together as a team to pull in more wins for their next match-up on the road this weekend. COS became the #4 seed from the North, meaning the Giants take on Citrus College in the opening round on Friday at 3pm at University of the Pacific. There will be a bus making the trip to UOP departing at 10am Friday morning, returning at approximately 8:30-9:00pm, the cost is $20 per seat. Space is extremely limited, only 47 seats total, but bear in mind some of those have already been purchased. COS would like to get as much support for the Giants as we can while on the road.
South #1 Citrus vs. North #4 Sequoias.
